Micheal Rice is an award winning film maker, producer, choreographer and creative director for stage and film. His vision is to bring uncompromising stories and authentic art work of black gay and cis gendered millennials to the forefront of society. Rice has over ten years experience working on multiple platforms of entertainment from television to regional theatre. The debut of his documentary parTy boi , black Diamonds in ice castles has sparked controversy, debate and needed dialogue amongst urban LGBTQ communities of color dealing with substance abuse, opioid addiction and HIV infection. Micheal’s curations are not only art but a staple of activism behind the lens.
party boi: black diamonds in ice castles is an award winning documentary that journeys into the world of crystal meth addiction and use within black and brown LGBTQ communities. Party boi has received numerous accalids including Best featured documentary at the prestigious Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, A mayoral award for excellence in film and advocacy work from Mayor Benard Young of Baltimore and New York City's Black pride heritage award in 2018. Party boi has toured in 38 cities across the US domestically and has had sell out screenings internationally in such cities as Manchester, London UK, Toronto Canada and Paris France.
parTy boi: black diamonds in ice castles focuses on methamphetamine addiction within the LGBTQ community of color and explores a drug epidemic that is affecting the lives of Black and Latino gay millennials at an alarming rate. The documentary focuses on the urgency to normalize conversations about HIV/AIDS prevention methods and also spotlights historical facts about the emergence of an underground culture that became the world- renowned ballroom scene.
